ARTIST'S STATEMENT
My work explores issues of identity, exclusion and marginality in relation to the politics of space and place in contemporary South Africa. Through paintings of peripheral structures, such as freeway margins and bridges, focusing on the architectures of belonging and mobility, I explore ideas of edge, border, and spatial liminality. I am generally occupied with idea of non-space as a challenge to the imagination of landscape as a basis for identity formation in and of Johannesburg.
